Security forces claim to foil assassination bid against Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan
- National Security Service in Yerevan said an unspecified group had been arrested
- Pashinyan agreed to a peace deal with Azerbaijan and regional power Russia earlier this week

Armenian security forces on Saturday claimed they had foiled an assassination plot against Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.
The National Security Service in Yerevan claimed that an unspecified group had been arrested and an arms cache dug up, the Russian news agency Tass reported.
According to the report, the group planned an attack on Pashinyan and a “subsequent takeover.”
The alleged plotters reportedly did not agree with the prime minister's domestic and foreign policy. No further details were disclosed.
Pashinyan agreed to a peace deal with Azerbaijan and regional power Russia earlier this week after Armenian forces lost control of the strategically important town of Shushi - Shusha in Azerbaijani - and Azerbaijan admitted to shooting down a Russian helicopter, killing two crew members.
The deal was met with stiff resistance in Armenia as it means that Armenia formally loses control of several parts of the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. It ended a six-week fight between those former Soviet republics during which more than 1,000 people were reported killed.
