VideoWatch: Russia marks Victory Day as war in Ukraine grinds on
- On May 9, Russia celebrates its 1945 victory over Nazi Germany with a show of military might in Moscow
- Events are also being held in St Petersburg, but were cancelled in other cities because of security concerns

Russia on Tuesday is marking the anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany in World War II with a parade in Red Square.
Victory Day is one of the most important public holidays in Russia. This anniversary is even more emotionally charged as Russia mourns thousands of soldiers killed in the nearly 15-month war in Ukraine, which shows no sign of ending.
It is being held amid tight security following a series of drone attacks, including on the Kremlin citadel itself on May 3, that Moscow has blamed on Ukraine.
Ukraine, which is expected shortly to launch a counteroffensive to retake land, denies involvement.
Still, more than 20 cities in Russia have cancelled their May 9 observances because of concerns the events could be targets for Ukrainian attacks. Events are still going ahead in St Petersburg.
