Limousine driver ‘Mad Mike Hughes’ believes Earth is flat … and wants to launch himself in home-made rocket to prove it

By now, Mike Hughes should have already proved that the Earth was flat.
That was according to his original plan, which had been to launch himself 550 metres high last Saturday in his home-made scrap-metal rocket over Amboy, California, an unincorporated community in the Mojave Desert along historic Route 66.
From the sky, he would snap a picture to prove that a conspiracy of astronauts fabricated the shape of the Earth.
But a variety of roadblocks have forced him to push back his experiment, he claims.
First, the Bureau of Land Management told him he couldn’t launch his rocket on public land, even though Hughes insisted that the federal agency had given him verbal permission more than a year ago.
A BLM spokeswoman said its local field office had no record of speaking with Hughes and that he had not applied for the necessary special recreation permit to hold an event on public land.
“Someone from our local office reached out to him after seeing some of these news articles [about the launch], because that was news to them,” BLM spokesperson Samantha Storms said.
