Fox News host Sean Hannity was lambasted by America’s late-night talk show hosts on Monday after it emerged that he was the ‘mystery client’ that US President Donald Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, had tried to keep hidden in court.

Hannity, who has been an unwavering supporter of Trump, claimed on Twitter that Cohen “has never represented me in any matter” and that he “never retained him, received an invoice, or paid legal fees” – but he did admit on a radio show to giving Cohen “10 bucks” on occasion for legal advice.

That made fine fodder for Jimmy Kimmel, Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah, whose savage mockery can be seen in the videos below.

Jimmy Kimmel Live!

It appeared that the great Jimmy Kimmel-Sean Hannity feud of 2018 had been extinguished after Kimmel put an end to their Twitter bickering last week – but the news of Hannity’s connection with Cohen caused Kimmel to revisit his “pal” that evening.

Hannity had admitted on Twitter to “occasionally” having “brief discussions with Cohen about legal questions about which I wanted his input and perspective” but said “they never involved any matter between me and a third party”.

“Isn’t that interesting, that he would need advice from Michael Cohen?” the host asked viewers. “What kind of legal advice doesn’t involve a third party? Unless maybe Sean Hannity was thinking about suing himself?”

On his radio program, Hannity said his conversations with Cohen “dealt almost exclusively about real estate.”

Assuming Hannity is represented by Cohen, Kimmel said, “If this is the biggest witch hunt in history – as they say it is – we’re running out of spots on the broomstick.”

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

How did the announcement make Colbert feel? Apparently pretty euphoric. After showing a clip of CNN sharing the news, the camera panned to the funnyman lounging in a leather chair and caressing himself while he sipped red wine.

Colbert also proposed plans for his former Daily Show cohort Jon Stewart, who frequently used to mock Hannity in the days when he anchored the Comedy Central show.

“Jon Stewart, after the show, I’m going to come over, and we’re just going to spoon – just spoon,” Colbert suggested. “This is crazy!”

“We may never know, but it doesn’t matter what Cohen was doing for [Hannity],” Colbert continued. “What does matter is that Sean Hannity is out there every day, every night defending Trump and Michael Cohen.”

“What else haven’t you been telling us?” Colbert wondered about Hannity. “That you share a barber with the LEGO man?”

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah

Noah called out Hannity for being “unethical” for not divulging his relationship with Cohen. “Which, even for Sean Hannity, is pretty shady”, the comedian said in the not-safe-for-work clip.

“Even Instagram models have higher ethical standards,” Noah reasoned. “Because they’ll be like, ‘Drink Tummy Tea! By the way, I’m sponsored by Tummy Tea.’”
