Police arrest boy, 14, after he shot his classmate in the arm at their California high school
Police said that the shooting occurred due to a dispute between the shooter and the victim, and that the injured student was shot in the arm
A 14-year-old boy has been taken into custody after shooting a classmate in the arm at their California high school on Friday, Los Angeles County police said.
Los Angeles County sheriff’s Captain Darran Harris told KTTV that one student was shot in the arm and that the shooting stemmed from a dispute between the shooter and the victim. He didn’t elaborate. The injured student is expected to make a full recovery.
After the arrest deputies continued to search Highland High School, in Palmdale, in the high desert Antelope Valley north of Los Angeles, Sheriff’s Sgt. Aura Sierra said.
The Sheriff’s Information Bureau says the report was received at 7.05am. The youth has not been identified, and a gun was recovered at the scene.
Sierra said that someone also called to report shots fired in the vicinity of Manzanita Elementary School about 7 miles (11 kilometres) away.
Officials later said deputies searched the elementary school and found no evidence of a shooting.
Harris says Highland High School school is safe but remains on lockdown as officials worked to reunite students with their parents.
