A gunman in the United States cut through a fence to avoid security and opened fire at a festival in California, killing three and wounding at least 15 others before police fatally shot him.
Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said the suspect appeared to randomly target people at the Gilroy Garlic Festival when he opened fire just after 5.30pm on Sunday, at the conclusion of a three-day festival in a city known as the “Garlic Capital of the World”.
Police responded to the mass shooting within a minute, engaged the suspect and killed him, Smithee said.

The man was identified as Santino William Legan, police said, without elaborating.

Some witnesses reported a second suspect, Smithee said, but it was unclear whether that person was armed or simply provided assistance. A manhunt continued late into the night.
