Pop icon Madonna said she had Covid-19 while on her Madame X world tour, as she contributed US$1 million towards the development of a vaccine.

In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the singer sought to clarify recent “sensationalist headlines” about her, after she earlier claimed she had tested positive for Covid-19 antibodies.

“I am not currently sick.” she said. “When you test positive for antibodies it means you HAD the virus which I clearly did as I was sick at the end of my tour in Paris over 7 weeks ago along with many other artists in my show at the time. We all thought we had a very bad flu. Thank God we are all healthy and well now.”

Madonna ended her world tour before its final date after the French government banned large gatherings.

She also posted that she was grateful to be part of the initiative to fight the coronavirus.

Last week, Madonna said in another post that she had taken a test and had antibodies. “So tomorrow I’m just going to go for a long drive in the car. I’m going to roll down the window, I’m going to roll down the window and breathe in the Covid-19 air,” she said.
