US President Donald Trump on Monday taunted Joe Biden, claiming his Democratic opponent forgot his name and called him “George”.

Trump, 74, has often accused Biden, 77, of being senile as the two candidates battle it out ahead of the November 3 vote.

Biden stumbled over a name when he was interviewed during the virtual “I Will Vote” concert on Sunday, and social media has lit up with claims that he confused Trump with a previous occupant of the Oval Office.

Biden did say “George”, which some social media users concluded was a reference to former president George W. Bush. But many of these posts omit a critical detail: Biden and his wife Jill were being interviewed by actor and comedian George Lopez.

“Four more years of George, er, George, er, he – we’re going to find ourselves in a position where, if Trump gets elected, we’re going to be in a different world,” Biden said, sitting next Jill, who appeared to be prompting him.

“Joe Biden called me George yesterday. Couldn’t remember my name,” Trump tweeted with glee. “The Fake News Cartel is working overtime to cover it up!”
