Joe Biden campaigns with California Governor Gavin Newsom on eve of recall election
- Californians are voting on whether they approve of their democratically elected governor, and if not, who should replace him
- Only one recall has ever succeeded: Arnold Schwarzenegger ousted unpopular Democrat Gray Davies in 2003

Biden made a Monday evening appearance with the embattled first-term governor in the port city of Long Beach near Los Angeles, marking Newsom’s final rally before a special election on Tuesday that will test the power of Trump’s appeal in a deeply Democratic state.
The president and governor appeared together earlier in Sacramento, the state capital, where Biden stopped during a tour of wildfire damage in the region.
“The eyes of the nation are on California because the decision you’re going to make isn’t just going to have a huge impact on California, it’s going to reverberate around the nation, and quite frankly, not a joke, around the world,” Biden said at the rally in Long Beach.
Vice-President Kamala Harris campaigned in the San Francisco Bay area for Newsom last week.
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Amy Klobuchar also campaigned in the state.
