Six US Secret Service agents have been suspended as a result of an investigation into the July 2024 assassination attempt against then-candidate Donald Trump at a campaign rally in Pennsylvania, people familiar with the matter said.

Five agents assigned to the Pittsburgh field office and one on Trump’s detail received suspensions ranging from 10 to 42 days without pay, according to the people, who asked not to be identified before the disciplinary action was publicly announced.

The Pittsburgh office was responsible for coordinating with local law enforcement.

The disclosure of the disciplinary measures comes days before the one-year anniversary of the July 13, 2024 shooting, in which local firefighter Corey Comperatore was killed and two other attendees were seriously wounded.

A bullet grazed Trump’s ear, and his move to pump his fist and chant “fight, fight” became one of the most indelible images in modern campaign history.

The US Department of Homeland Security, which oversees the Secret Service, launched an independent review of security failures around the assassination attempt, which prompted the resignation of the agency’s director and a sweeping internal review.
