A man wearing Batman pyjamas has helped police in the United States to catch an early morning burglar.

Officers at the Cape Coral Police Department, Florida, were responding to a burglary in progress at around 2am on Wednesday when they located their suspect, who was already being detained by a local man.

“The neighbour, Kyle Myvett, told detectives he had gone to bed when his home security cameras alerted him to someone breaking into his vehicle,” police wrote on social media.

Police said Myvett went outside, “still dressed in his Batman pyjamas”, and saw 20-year-old Justin Schimpl rummaging through his truck. He then spotted him doing the same thing in a neighbour’s garage and “detained him until officers arrived”.

Before being taken into custody, the suspect allegedly swiped cash, a wrist watch, more than US$500 in gift cards and two pairs of Ray-Ban sunglasses worth US$300 each.
