Call it America’s swimwear conservatism. Republican female politicians have been defending their right to show off more skin than usually considered appropriate for people in high positions, hmm, I mean office.

Anna Paulina Luna, 35, a congresswoman from Florida, is obviously proud of her bikini days as a model and cover feature for not one but two leading North American men’s magazines. To be fair, though, she didn’t start the row.

Some troll got the ball rolling by posting an old clip of her on X with an admittedly sexist caption, “Anna Paulina Luna should be working at my local Hooters, NOT in Congress!” It was set to the background music of the 1970s hard-rock hit, “Barracuda”, by Heart.

Really now, that’s rather insulting to people who work at Hooters, a bar-restaurant chain well-known for its well-endowed waitresses. Luna’s one-piece swimwear had Maga (Make America Great Again) – Donald Trump’s signature campaign slogan – printed on it.

X considers the clip so racy it now carries an “adult content” warning label.

Rather than downplaying it, the Maga Trump ally double downed with a sarcastic retort on X.
