Archaeologists in Peru have dug up a mummy that is 1,000 years old. It was discovered at an archaeological site in the country’s capital city, Lima.

“This is an adult in a sitting position,” said Mirella Ganoza, an archaeologist. The mummy had long hair. The person might have lived before the ancient Inca Empire arrived in the area.

The mummy was found with ceramic containers, fabrics and other objects in the Huaca Pucllana site in Lima. Archaeological sites are places with items from the past.

Mummies and ancient offerings have already been found in this site, but experts say there is still more to be found.
