It is important to minimise waste and conserve resources to combat climate change

Difficulty: Explorer (Level 1)
We can keep Earth healthy by following the three “R”s: reuse, reduce and recycle.
Reusing means using things many times until they are truly worn out.
For example, you can use the same water bottle every day for years until it gets too battered. This is better than buying new water bottles every time yours gets a scratch.
Reduce means to minimise the number of things you buy and resources you use.
One way you can do this is to avoid buying new clothes every year. Only buy clothes when you really need them, for instance, if something doesn’t fit you any more. This creates less waste.
You can reduce the amount of water you use by taking shorter showers.
You can also turn off the lights that are not needed in your home. This can reduce electricity consumption.
Finally, recycling means putting things like paper, cardboard and plastic into the recycling bin. This way, they can be used to make something new.
These are all important ways to protect our planet and fight climate change.
Egg carton flowers

Materials
-
a cardboard egg carton
-
scissors
-
paint
-
paint brushes
-
pipe cleaners
Instructions
1. First, cut off the little cups on the egg carton. So, if the carton held 12 eggs, you should have 12 cups. These will be the flowers.
2. Paint the cups different colours.
3. Have a parent help you poke a hole into the bottom of each carton. Then, push a pipe cleaner through it. Fold one end of the pipe cleaner inside the cup so it doesn’t fall out.
4. The pipe cleaner will be the stem of the flower. You can also bend it in the middle to make a leaf.
5. Once you have done this with all the cups, you will have a bouquet!
