Founded by the late Dr Chow Yei Ching in 1970, Chevalier Group emerged just as Hong Kong entered a period of rapid urbanisation. Starting with a team of ten and the Toshiba lifts and escalators agency, the young company seized the momentum of industrialisation – a leap of faith that set it on a path defined by courage, innovation and perseverance.
Today, Chevalier Group has grown into a conglomerate managing over 8,000 staff members across eight countries. Its business portfolio spans construction and engineering, property investment and development, senior living and healthcare, logistics, property management, insurance, network solutions and more. Yet the Group’s core spirit remains unchanged.
Engineering progress, building communities
Chevalier Group’s rise has gone hand in hand with Hong Kong’s growth into a modern metropolis. The company began with lift installations in the 1970s and later expanded into air-conditioning, electrical and mechanical works as well as the recent decades of major infrastructure projects.
The conglomerate’s contributions include the Hong Kong International Airport third-runway project (concourse and apron works), the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge Hong Kong Port Car Park and the Kai Tak Sports Park vertical transportation system, all of which have become part of the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Each development reflects the Group’s commitment to combining technical excellence with service to the community.
Innovation for the next generation
In business, staying ahead means keeping pace with innovation. In recent years, Chevalier Group has embraced new technologies including the use of modular construction methods to drive efficiency and sustainability.
A case in point is the Chevalier Full Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) Solution designed to meet Hong Kong’s urban challenges. With the completion of the first Light Public Housing project in Hong Kong, the Group has demonstrated how its Full MiC Solution enables faster construction, reduces waste and raises build quality, therefore helping the city move towards more sustainable development.

For more than five decades, Chevalier Group has grown from an engineering contractor into a conglomerate that plays a role in many aspects of daily life – from the lifts and escalators that keep the city moving to the efficient delivery of goods and the safety of construction workers.
As Hong Kong’s economy developed, the Group expanded beyond its engineering roots into property investment and management, logistics, network solutions, environmental engineering and elderly residences, forming a diversified business portfolio that supports both urban growth and quality of life.
Over the years, Chevalier Group has once offered telecommunications services and computer systems through its technology arm. Its ventures later extended to hospitality, cold storage and dining, including a past investment in Pacific Coffee.
In the 2010s, the Group further broadened its presence in the healthcare sector by expanding into North America with the acquisition of elderly care homes – experience it is now bringing back to Hong Kong through new retirement community concepts.
Ventria Residence, its flagship senior housing project here in Hong Kong, is a prime example that illustrates how the Group addresses community needs while seeking long-term growth opportunities. Combining elderly care, social engagement and residential comfort, the initiative reflects Chevalier Group’s vision of integrated healthcare and community living by offering older adults a dignified, safe and adaptable environment.
Through this strategic diversification, Chevalier Group has built a balanced business foundation that continues to uncover opportunities both locally and overseas. This breadth of activity has also provided investors with broader revenue streams and greater resilience across market cycles.
Empowering people and nurturing talent
Chevalier Group’s growth has always been driven by the belief that people are central to every achievement. The Group is committed to creating a workplace that supports both personal and professional development, alongside sustained investment in education and training for decades.
Since 1998, the Chevalier Culture and Education Foundation has supported schools, universities and vocational programmes across Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. The Chevalier Group Scholarship, launched in 2018 in partnership with the Vocational Training Council, grants HK$1mn annually to nurture young professionals for the city’s construction and engineering sectors. By 2026, the programme will have benefited over 320 students.
Meanwhile, the Group’s apprenticeship scheme, now in its 30th year, continues to train young technicians and engineers through hands-on experience and professional mentorship. Its long-running volunteer team embodies Chevalier Group’s commitment to community care by fostering both craftsmanship and compassion across the organisation.
A legacy of trust and integrity
Throughout its history, Chevalier Group has held fast to its founding principles of integrity, pragmatism and excellence. These values have earned the Group the trust of partners, clients and employees alike, relationships built not only on contracts but on shared purpose.
As Hong Kong enters a new stage of urban growth and regeneration, with ongoing housing projects, infrastructure upgrades and a growing focus on sustainability, Chevalier Group stands ready to play its part – as it has from the outset.
Against this backdrop, the Group will continue to expand globally, embrace new technologies and nurture the next generation of engineers and professional talents, while remaining true to its heritage and its lasting commitment to Hong Kong, the Motherland and the regions in which it operates.

- The name “Chevalier”, derived from the French word for knight, embodies the founder’s vision as well as the Group’s enduring commitment to integrity, perseverance and service to the community it calls home.
- In the early 1990s, Chevalier Group introduced “Chevalier Telepoint”, a second-generation cordless phone with short range mobile service. Paired with pagers, it became a familiar feature of daily life and remains part of older Hongkongers’ collective memory.
