Celebrating Excellence: CIC Outstanding Contractor Award 2024

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) recently convened Hong Kong’s leading contractors to celebrate the Outstanding Contractor Award (OCA) at a distinguished ceremony held on November 6 at the Island Shangri-La Hotel.
This triennial event commended the exemplary contributions of contractors across Major Contractor, Contractor, Specialist Contractor and RMAA Contractor (Repair, Maintenance, Alteration and Addition) categories, recognising their commitment to safety, innovation, young practitioners, sustainability, professionalism and integrity management.
In the welcoming remarks, Ir Prof. Thomas Ho On-sing, Chairman of the CIC, set a spirited tone for the evening, describing the OCA as the “Oscars of the Construction Industry”.
Reflecting on the resilience and dedication shown by contractors over recent years, Ir Prof. Ho lauded their ability to deliver complex projects under challenging conditions, including rapid-response healthcare and housing facilities that addressed urgent community needs.
“Our honourees here tonight represent excellence across safety culture, corporate innovation, professionalisation, and ESG principles etc., and we hope they will continue to set new standards, enhancing the construction industry’s role in Hong Kong’s development,” he said.

Bernadette Linn, Secretary for Development, delivered a keynote address that commended the transformative impact of the awardees’ work. She recognised the OCA as a prestigious award that not only acknowledges individual achievements but also drives the sector towards sustainable growth.
“This prestigious accolade, often dubbed the ‘Oscars of the Construction Industry’, holds immense significance by not only acknowledging the exceptional accomplishments and unwavering dedication of our contractors, but also playing a pivotal role in advancing the development of the construction sector.” she said, while expressing her confidence that this year’s winners would inspire others to pursue high-quality development and innovation.

Throughout the evening, awards were presented across the four main categories, each with at least five subcategories to honour distinct fields of accomplishment:

Among them, the Outstanding Contractor Award honourees, including Gammon Construction, Kum Shing (K F) Construction, Gammon E&M, Integral E&M and Cheung Hing Construction, were specially recognised for their achievements in delivering high-quality projects.


Ir Rocky Poon, Chairperson of the Committee of the OCA 2024, addressed the gathering on the critical role of digital technology in ensuring site safety.
“Safety on construction sites is paramount,” he said. “The integration of digital technology into safety management reinforces our dedication to secure and efficient workplaces.”
In his closing remarks, Ir Albert Cheng, Executive Director of CIC, acknowledged both the achievements of the awardees and the commitment of the industry as a whole to maintaining high ethical standards.
“Tonight, we celebrate not only the achievements of our honourees but also the industry’s sustained dedication to progress underpinned by integrity,” he said, calling on the industry to view future challenges as opportunities for collective advancement, “Let us build on today’s accomplishments to create a future filled with possibility, bringing even greater benefits to Hong Kong and its people.”
As the honourees move forward, their efforts are set to inspire a new generation in Hong Kong’s construction industry, embodying the values of excellence, innovation and integrity.
