Seizing an enviable spot on the global business calendar, the EOY China Awards program is one of the most prestigious and most anticipated business awards celebrating inspiring leaders and their achievements. Themed 'Know your challenge. Go far and beyond' this year, the challenges associated with the COVID-19 pandemic have meant an unprecedented virtual experience of the coveted program, with nominations now open.

This year will likely go down in history as a formidable one for business leaders: challenging and testing times for some, exciting and milestone-making for others. All these represent stormy rides for many businesses, and a test of the genuine entrepreneurial spirit which is needed to guide today’s organisations to reach resiliency and prosperity.

A remarkable business year in the making

Jack Chan, Chairman of the Ernst & Young member firms in China and EY Greater China Regional Managing Partner says, “While the pandemic has sharply reduced global demand across industries and created severe headwinds for almost all major economies across the world, there have been encouraging signs throughout these economies that the trends emerged from the consumer and business level have given rise to a new business landscape and will have a lasting impact on global economic growth and socio-economic development.”

Engaged with organisations from various sectors, Chan added that EY has repeatedly witnessed entrepreneurs serving a driving force in overcoming challenges. “With innovation, perseverance and optimism, plus a strong sense of commitment, entrepreneurs have contributed to the stable development of the economy and society amid the crisis.  They are a crucial part of China’s economic resilience and the embodiment of unity.”

During the webcast opening ceremony held on Jul 29, past winners of EOY China Awards, judges, senior executives of the platinum sponsor, Credit Suisse and EY discussed the economic impact and entrepreneurs’ response under the threat of COVID-19 around the theme “Know Your Challenge. Go Far and Beyond”.

Challenging times breed innovations

Over the past months, it became the new normal for many companies to think of business transformations – corporate purpose, sustainability, ways of working, use of digital and new business models.

Michael Bi, EOY China Awards Program Co-chairman and EY Greater China Markets Managing Partner, offers his views on the key drivers in the economy amid the pandemic, " As the backbone of an innovation hub, entrepreneurs rapidly responded to changes of the situation, seized the opportunities to make use of digital ways to be ahead in the market, and took advantages of artificial intelligence and information technology to support frontline of epidemic prevention. They actively look for solutions and measures to tackle challenges, make outstanding contribution in preventing the COVID-19 outbreak and speeding up the recovery of economies of China and the world.”

In our recognition to honouring entrepreneurs in China who achieve success by combing ability with opportunity, EOY Awards China program is expected to present awards in multiple categories, including but not limited to cleantech, consumer products, industrial products, media & entertainment, pharmaceutical & life sciences, real estate, services, as well as technology.

Ringo Choi, EOY China Awards Program Co-chairman and China South Managing Partner, says, “Under the special circumstance arising from the COVID-19 pandemic, we are looking forward to having more unique and outstanding entrepreneurs to help us understand the current situation more clearly and build a greater future together.”
