As investors are becoming more sophisticated and financially savvy, the demand for a wider and more exclusive selection of investment products has continued to grow. Through the latest ‘HSBC Jade Private Market Investments’ service, HSBC is the first retail bank that has transcended the boundaries of retail products through a suite of private market grade investment products, along with a dedicated HSBC Jade Director to help its Jade customers* to unlock secret opportunities, grow further and make the money work harder.

The elevated services enable HSBC Jade clients to strengthen their portfolios with a diversified range of investment products, which include Primary bonds, Private Equity and Hedge Funds, Private Placement of Structured Notes and the upcoming Equity Block Trades.

Committed to expanding the Asia wealth business with new HSBC Jade Private Market Investments service

Rooted in Asia for 156 years, the new HSBC Jade service reflects the bank’s commitment to expanding their wealth business in Hong Kong and acts as an important pillar for their growth in Asia.  HSBC Jade customers can further utilise HSBC’s global investment expertise, international footprint and trusted heritage to fulfill their fast-changing investment needs at every stage of their wealth journey, especially to those who qualify as professional investors.

Gain priority access to a wider world of investment opportunities

Due to the complexity of bond trading and a relatively underdeveloped local bond market, it was not until the last decade that retail investors have more actively participated in bond investing. However, in recent years, demand from retail investors has been catching up quickly, as they appreciate the opportunities and benefits that bond investments can bring to their overall portfolios.

Unlike the past, when retail investors invested in bonds mainly through unit trusts, HSBC’s new Dedicated Bonds Services allow direct access to primary and secondary bond markets, both local and global, to capture investment opportunities, including investment-grade and high-yield bonds in multiple currencies and sectors. The services include bond primary offerings, bond sourcing on request, dedicated HSBC Jade bond shelf, and portfolio consolidation via transfer-in.

Secure more trading opportunities with this first-in-retail-banking service

HSBC is the first retail bank in Hong Kong offering access to bond primary markets and able to arrange subscription in certain primary bond issues which are normally the exclusive domain of institutional investors and private banking clients.

The benefit of access to primary bond markets for retail investors is that they can leverage on the potential premium and the liquidity of new bonds issued by high quality names. The price of some popular oversubscribed new bonds often lifts briefly after pricing, and the trading spread of the new issuance is mostly narrower due to the high turnover in the early days of secondary market trading. It helps create more trading opportunities for investors.

Tap into the potential of alternative investments with high degree of flexibility

Alternative investments such as real estate funds and hedge funds is another area that has seen increased interest from retail investors who have a higher level of investment knowledge and experience. In the current low interest rate environment, investors continue the search of yield by looking beyond traditional equity and bond asset classes. Real estate funds and hedge funds could be good alternative sources of enhanced returns and downside protection.

HSBC is the first to make these private-bank products available to retail customers, with high flexibility (no capital lockup and no capital calls) and high liquidity (daily or monthly dealing).

Greater investment flexibility with enhanced tracking of popular stocks

The bank also offers private placement of structured notes that track popular Hong Kong stocks, US stocks and/or major indices. These structured notes provide greater investment flexibility in respect of underlying and payoff structures, including capital protection. In addition, HSBC’s Global Markets structuring team is able to create bespoke structures, for instance, linking to unique customized indices such as Solactive Luxury Dynamic Factors Index, and guaranteed launches with ticket size as low as HKD500,000.
