Upholding a long-standing tradition in forging, family-owned company Schmiedetechnik Plettenberg (STP) brings its well-honed expertise in producing high-precision gear box, engine and powertrain components to Asia's flourishing automotive industry.
With an impressive clientele of German original equipment manufacturers, such as Audi, BMW and Volkswagen, and tier one automotive companies such as ZF and LuK, the company is in a good position to become the region's supplier-of-choice for vehicle parts.
"Our long history in forging and capacity to continuously develop technologies are the secrets of STP's success," says Cornel Muller, CEO. "As customer demand increases, so do our standards. The challenge is keeping up with the next generation of products and equipment."
STP manufacturers approximately 20 million forged components annually out of 65,000 tonnes of raw material for various applications in the automotive industry. The company offers the added value of machining parts into finished products or ready-to-mount components.
In line with Germany's stringent environmental regulations, STP maintains state-of-the-art equipment at two manufacturing sites and two machining facilities in Germany and guarantees the production of cost-efficient and high-performance vehicle components.
"What sets us apart is our competence in developing products," Muller says. "Because of our experience with different raw materials, we know what works best for specific requirements such as reducing fuel consumption and emissions."
STP is one of the few automotive suppliers with a competitive edge in ring rolling and automated manufacturing technologies.
The company operates automated production lines - a process which it has developed in-house, from programming the robots to designing the tooling and control systems.
Having recently entered joint ventures with partners in Southeast Asia and China, STP aims to bring its automated production process to Asia in light of increasing commercial vehicle sales across the region.
"We want to go where our customers are and bring them our technology," Muller says.
