Rhine-Waal University of Applied Sciences is quickly gaining a reputation as an innovative, interdisciplinary and international university. Established in 2009, the state-funded university offers specialised engineering and technology programmes, many of which are taught in English and not found at other German universities.

"Our programmes are designed to meet the current and future demands of industry and society," says university president Dr Heide Naderer. "Our graduates are experts in applying theoretical concepts to practical, real-world scenarios in a broad range of fields."

Setting trends with its international focus, around a third of its more than 5,000 students are from overseas, representing over 100 nationalities, with many students from China. Its two modern campuses in Kleve and Kamp-Lintfort are equipped with modern technology, laboratories and classroom facilities.

The university's cross-cultural expertise and innovative programmes are brought to life in the faculties of technology and bionics, life sciences, society and economics, and communication and environment. Its highly qualified graduates have extensive experience in core scientific subjects and are equipped with business administration and management skills. With 85 per cent of its programmes taught in English, foreign languages play an important part in the university's overall concept. It offers additional language courses at no cost.

The university creates a learning environment with its small class size, allowing students to engage in hands-on, collaborative projects and work closely with faculty to develop practical solutions - all without tuition fees. Mandatory internships give students valuable learning opportunities, and the university's broad industry networks connect students to local and international businesses across sectors.

Strengthening its position in the global academic landscape, the university cultivates partnerships with top-tier academic institutions around the world for student and faculty exchanges, joint study programmes and collaborative research. In Asia, it maintains strong links with China's Donghua University, Ningbo University and Tianjin Polytechnic University, and nurtures ties with universities in Cambodia, India, Indonesia and other countries.

"We aim to produce internationally competitive graduates who are equipped to address the business and social challenges of today and tomorrow," Naderer says.
