At this year’s DesignInspire, one of the star attractions will be Titan the Robot, created by British company Cyberstein Robots. Weighing 60kg, or up to 350kg including a cart and additional equipment, the transformer-like Titan is built with advanced robotic technology and artificial intelligence. At 8-feet tall, its agility is enabled by state-of-the-art joints and mechanisms. Titan is known to be able to shoot water from his eyes while entertaining the crowd during a comedic performance.

Superstar Titan has performed at a variety of high profile public and private events, including the Commonwealth Games, Bar Mitzvahs, television fundraisers and live concerts. It entered the Chinese market in 2018 where it is operated by Tuxuan Robotics.

Urbanovation - a thematic pavilion of innovation

A regular feature at DesignInspire is the pavilion Urbanovation, launched in 2016 to examine how innovation can enable urban communities to attain a more efficient and sustainable lifestyle. Innovative solutions are identified around the region, with the aim to cultivate people-centric design, nurture innovation ecosystem and raise public awareness of the importance of technology.

This year Urbanovation will showcase 25 collaborations with a focus on interactive solution, STEAM education and smart living.

“The Wave” series is one of five multimedia interactive experiential installations at Urbanovation that illustrates how technology can be integrated into experience design to fulfil business needs. Created by Victor Wong, award-winning movie visual effects director, the series is inspired by the movement of rough water that can be used for art therapy.

One of the highlights is “TROUBLE WATER”, a LED Wave Bench using 3D mapping graphics. Visitors are invited to sit on it to experience the moments that symbolise difficulties. The message is that no matter how tough the situation is, as long as we stay calm and be patient, the bad moments will eventually be gone.

Smart living gadgets

Airluna, developed by ASA Innovation & Technology Limited (Hong Kong), is the world's first smart air-purifying lamp that incorporates the patented Plasma Assisted Catalytic Oxidation (PACO) nanotechnology. Compared to traditional activated carbon, PACO has a 20-time longer life span of up to 10 years, and an accelerated purification time of one third, significantly reducing the cost of filters, without any by-products or secondary pollution. It is also smartly engineered with three operational modes, while the purification and lighting functions can be operated independently.

Developed by Digital Oasis Limited, VisualSonic is an innovative digital home decor product that combines art and audio. It features a new sound output system, using a new material to produce high fidelity sound within an ultra-thin space of less than 3cm, which is designed to small living spaces.  This new material can also be printed as an artwork panel, camouflaging as a hanging work of art. Augmented Reality (AR) and voice control technologies enable the integration of digital information in real-time.
