Hong Kong’s Construction Industry Council (CIC) is set to transform local know-how into customisable and adaptable solutions when it stages the Construction Innovation Expo 2025 (CIExpo) from December 11 to 13 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Building on the success of the 2022 edition, which drew over 21,000 visits, 173 exhibitors and more than 2,500 conference participants, CIExpo 2025 will be divided into four thematic zones: productivity, smart construction, sustainability and safety.
In addition to the exhibition halls, the three-day event will host live demonstrations, immersive site tours and a robust line-up of international conferences covering:
- International Construction Leadership and New Quality Productive Forces (NQPF)
- Construction Safety Culture and Smart Site Safety System (4S)
- Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) / Multi-trade integrated MEP (MiMEP)
- Sustainable and Smart Construction practices
Export-ready solutions
According to Ho, Hong Kong’s construction innovations are ideal for export as a service not just because they have universal applicability but also because they have been put to the test and delivered positive results in a real-world setting.
“With a proven track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects on demanding sites globally, Hong Kong consultants are well placed to advise overseas clients on MiC deployments, digital twins, smart safety regimes and carbon-neutral building practices.”
From BIM to full lifecycle digital twins
While Building Information Modelling (BIM) has long driven CIC’s digitalisation efforts, the focus now shifts to full lifecycle digital twins.

Interactive demos at CIExpo will let attendees manipulate a live digital twin of a scheme, adjusting building parameters and immediately seeing impacts on carbon emissions, life-cycle costs and maintenance requirements.
MiC and MiMEP
MiC and its multi-trade Mechanical/Electrical/Plumbing variant remain focal points of CIExpo 2025, as CIC has been actively helping the industry to strengthen the MiC supply chain by linking up stakeholders, to create an ecosystem that unites architectural design, off-site fabrication and on-site assembly.
High West, a residential development in Hong Kong, is cited as a prime example of lean, high-quality modular design and engineering.
“An international MiC/MiMEP conference will be held on Day 2, followed by the presentation of achievement awards,” Ho notes. “It will demonstrate how consultants can replicate our end-to-end model in markets from Southeast Asia to the Middle East.”
International delegates will tour a full-scale mock-up of a MiC residential unit and observe just-in-time component deliveries. Automation and safety are intrinsically linked at CIExpo 2025, showcasing how cutting-edge robotics and smart site technologies work seamlessly together.
Robotics competition
In July 2025, CIC will host a construction robot competition and exhibition titled “From Bay Area to Globe: Connecting the World”, designed to identify and nurture the most promising innovations emerging from university spin-outs and early-stage teams.
Winning teams, judged by a panel of global experts, will be invited to demonstrate their solutions in the Smart Construction Zone at CIExpo, where top-performing robots will be assessed on productivity and safety metrics.
Smart Site Safety System (“4S”)
As well as robotics, the Smart Site Safety System (“4S”), which combines technologies such as IoT sensors, wearable devices, AI-powered CCTV analytics and real-time alerts, will also be another highlight of CIExpo 2025.
In May 2024, the “4S Labelling Scheme” was introduced to drive the full adoption of 4S in both public and private works contracts in order to further uplift the safety performance of the construction industry. Since then, the initiative has attracted participation from over 520 projects in both the public and private sectors.
Ho says that safety culture is being transformed from a compliance-based approach to one driven by habit, thanks to continuous performance scoring. “These systems can be franchised overseas, with Hong Kong safety trainers managing deployment, accreditation and ongoing support,” he explains.

In the Sustainability Zone, CIC will unveil two proprietary platforms: the Carbon Assessment Tool and the Smart Waste Management Tool, both integral to Hong Kong’s roadmap to carbon neutrality by 2050.
Through hands-on kiosks, attendees can model embodied and operational carbon for sample projects, optimise material selections and simulate waste-diversion strategies.
“When overseas clients ask how to meet net-zero targets, not only will we offer software licenses but also deliver professional services such as data analysis, training and certification as a total solution,” Ho indicates.
Post-Expo, CIC plans to market end-to-end sustainability-consultancy packages, combining software deployment, data-analytics workshops and third-party verification services for international clients.
Developing a global talent pipeline
Developing a skilled workforce remains an integral part of CIC’s mission. CIC is devoted in training practitioners in emerging technologies, such as robotics operation, exoskeleton-assisted scaffolding, safety SOPs and digital-device modules, and to integrate these into professional certification pathways.
“We have already launched a Construction Youth Blueprint and Greater Bay Area exchanges,” Ho remarks. “Through our training-and-certification frameworks, Hong Kong can become a global hub for construction talent development.”
Smart Construction Zone at the Expo will simulate on-site scenarios for delegates, from digital-twin modelling to safety-system troubleshooting, ensuring that participants not only observe but also practise applying new technologies under expert guidance.
Themed forums and SME engagement
CIExpo’s themed forums will bring together government officials, industry stakeholders, academics, research institutes, and investors in thematic sessions on AI-driven low-altitude logistics, smart-construction and integrated project delivery.
“Hong Kong leads in cross-disciplinary collaboration. We can guide overseas teams to replicate our governance structures and stakeholder-alignment techniques.” These forums will be recorded and repackaged into e-learning modules, licensed to overseas partners, and supplemented by on-site coaching from Hong Kong-based specialists.
Understanding that small and medium enterprises (SMEs) often struggle to access innovation, CIC will host match-making sessions where they can pitch technologies to project owners, joint-venture partners and overseas buyers.
“Our SMEs will no longer be confined to local tenders,” says Ho. “Through CIC as a platform, they gain a global storefront, supported by our experts, warranties and quality-assurance protocols.”
