London City Island is not your typical London neighborhood. Just four minutes from the skyscrapers and shopping malls of the city's main financial district, Canary Wharf, this new development at the confluence of London's two major rivers offers a more relaxed pace of life in the heart of East London, with a cultured edge and bold architecture that harks back to the area's maritime heritage.

With Phase One of the development complete, the transformed Leamouth Peninsula has already welcomed its first residents. Phase Two is now underway and will see the construction of seven new townhouses next to the new headquarters of the English National Ballet, set to open later this year.

Joined by the London Film School and more galleries and creative spaces, City Island will be firmly established as London's new lifestyle hub for art and culture, served by artisan restaurants and boutiques that offer an independent alternative to the big brands at nearby Canary Wharf. A number of units at The Townhouses are now available for overseas property investors who want to be part of this exciting new development.

Inspired by heritage

London City Island has been dubbed “micro-Manhattan,” and the bold primary colors of The Townhouses reflect the timeless style of New York and Chicago apartments, with brickwork honoring East London's industrial past and bespoke metalwork inspired by the nearby Trinity Buoy Wharf, London's only lighthouse.

The industrial-inspired design continues inside the apartments, with polished concrete kitchen islands, brass tapware and oak dining tables and flooring. The living spaces are more contemporary in style and feature marble plinths to display art and sculptures, continuing the artistic theme of the development.

Jaki Amos, co-founder of interior design team Amos & Amos, explains: “The Townhouses at London City Island marked a real opportunity to create unique design-led living spaces which build upon the Island's boldness and creativity, whilst simultaneously referencing the site's rich industrial past. We have worked closely with EcoWorld Ballymore across a number of design projects at London City Island and it has been both exciting and rewarding to see the development evolve, with the Townhouses being the latest design landmark to be introduced to the Island.”

Luxury waterfront living

Residents at The Townhouses will enjoy uninterrupted views over the River Lea to Canary Wharf, the O2 and the city beyond through large crittall-style windows that maximize natural daylight. Selected apartments have large balconies or roof terraces suitable for al fresco dining, with bespoke fixtures and fittings adding a personalized touch.

All Island residents are also granted automatic membership to the City Island Arts Club, an exclusive members' club offering access to hotel-style amenities throughout the development. These include a private clubhouse, swimming pool, spa and gym as well as a dedicated deli, café and bar and a 24-hour concierge.

The Townhouses are right next to the red footbridge across the River Lea that connects with Canning Town Station. From here, travel times are four minutes to Canary Wharf, six minutes to London City Airport and 20 minutes to the city center by Underground or Docklands Light Railway (DLR). The new Crossrail Elizabeth Line service will arrive at Canary Wharf from 2020–21, speeding up journey times and expected to increase demand and house prices further in Canary Wharf and nearby areas.

Three-bedroom apartments are now available to purchase in seven Townhouses at London City Island, with construction scheduled to complete in summer 2020. Prices start from £1.45 million (HK$14.57m).
