From consumer electronics to office automation, to industrial materials and car parts, Tensho Electric Industries reinforces its lead in the plastics industry with a total commitment to quality, cost and delivery.

Founded 80 years ago, Tensho has been listed in the Tokyo Stock Exchange since 1961. “Our innovative plastic injection moulding technologies are one of the cornerstones for our continued success,” says president Tadahiko Ishikawa.

Under its electronics segment, Tensho manufactures assembly parts for the television industry. The company is also active in office automation and creates plastic housings for electronic components and equipment.

Comprising 60 per cent of its business is its automotive segment, where the company produces interior and exterior plastic parts for lighter and more fuel-efficient vehicles. Tensho is a tier-1 supplier to Toyota, Honda and Fuji Heavy Industries.

For its original products, Tensho’s Mippail plastic containers – designed for hazardous medical waste – prevent leakages and do not produce harmful substances when incinerated. The company plans to bring its Mippail products to Southeast Asia to address the stringent demands of medical institutions.

Other original products include rainfall retention and permeation products used in civil engineering applications. Weighing only 7kg, the products hold rainwater for a limited period and later allow it to flow out or permeate through the ground. “These product types were previously made of concrete and required a forklift to be moved into place. Using plastic materials makes them lighter and easier to install,” Ishikawa says.

The company continuously develops new technologies to bring value to customers. Its electric conduction paint technology provides protection against electric shock, while its film decorating technology enables it to laminate films over plastic moulded parts.

In Asia, Tensho eyes joint-venture partnerships or technology-transfer collaborations with local domestic players.

“We aim for long-term presence and engagement in the region’s potential markets and contribute to the growth of the local economy,” Ishikawa says.
