Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a durable and long-lasting plastic material with widespread uses, has revolutionised construction. Its high flexibility, weatherproof attributes and impact strength make it a versatile polymer ideal for building materials.

With Asia-Pacific dominating the multibillion dollar building materials market – globally forecast to reach US$810 billion by 2018 – Japanese PVC pioneer Lonseal brings more than 80 years of versatile polymer engineering expertise to the region’s fast-growing economies.

Lonseal introduced polyvinyl chloride processing in Japan back in 1947. Today, the company manufactures and sells PVC sheets with applications across diverse industries such as transport, aerospace and information technology.

From the roof over one’s head to the tiles under one’s feet, Lonseal’s array of plastic offerings include custom-made, antislip flooring sheets, water proofing sheets, wall covering and PVC films for industrial materials.

“Our key to success is simple – stable and high-calibre quality control, which differentiates us from competitors,” says CEO Susumu Kadowaki. “Understanding customer needs and product differentiation are also important.”

Lonseal’s major products highlight the company’s continued emphasis on PVC research and development and environmental sustainability.

Apart from non-slip flooring and volatile organic compound reduction technology used in creating materials, some Lonseal products have antivirus features which neutralise 99 per cent of viruses on a surface within an hour.

As the rate of investment in infrastructure across Asia-Pacific rises, Lonseal aspires to grow its overseas sales to more than 30 per cent of the company’s total sales in the next five years. The company invites partnerships with reliable distributors on the mainland and across Southeast Asia. It has been doing business in China for 30 years.

“Our most important mission is developing our overseas business,” Kadowaki says. “We now do flooring for transport sectors such as aircrafts, trains and buses. The transport industry seems to be expanding especially in China, and we can leverage our long history on the mainland and with customers from all over the world.”
