Leveraging its Singapore base as the gateway to Asia's maritime and offshore industry, SeaTech Solutions International is building up its reputation as Southeast Asia's largest and leading ship design house.
"Ship design comprises only a small fraction of the overall vessel cost, but about 70 per cent of the total cost is finalised during the design phase," says director Govinder Chopra. "Clients turn to globally recognised designers, and SeaTech rises to the occasion."
The company considers its large pool of experienced and skilful engineers from diverse disciplines as its competitive advantage. Its comprehensive services include designing solutions based on the clients' operational requirements, performing high-end engineering analysis and quality checks, and providing technical consultancy services for offshore and marine-related activities.
With close to 300 niche speciality designs sailing the seas globally, SeaTech constantly engages with ship owners, shipyards and offshore companies worldwide. The company has satellite offices in India, Malaysia, Thailand and China. It also foresees opportunities in Indonesia, where it plans to build an office and seek local partners that share its vision.
Adding to its accolades, SeaTech was selected to provide the basic design for the world's first seabed mining vessel owned by a Dubai-based offshore firm - an unprecedented feat within the industry. The vessel - to be constructed in China - is slated for delivery in 2017. The equipped offshore construction vessel will measure 227 metres by 40 metres with an installed power of 32 MW.
With China's bustling shipbuilding sector, SeaTech sees enormous potential in the region. The company seeks to expand its competency in offshore structures such as liftboats and jack-up rigs; in floating production, offshore and storage units; and in liquefied natural gas bunkering.
"Our aim is to become a sea of technology. We are geared towards that direction, fuelled by our thrust for innovation, client-centred approach, and drive for excellence," Chopra says.
