This global vision of immersive live entertainment aligns with the community mission of GEG, the local production partner of this event. GEG and Cirque du Soleil are committed to sharing this joy with more members of the community, ensuring that people from across Hong Kong have a chance to enjoy this wonderful show.

One of the community groups GEG is working with for this event is the Lam Kwun King Memorial Fund (Memorial Fund). The founder of Memorial Fund, Lam Tak Hing Vincent JP  is the recipient of the China Charity Award, considered the country’s highest honour for philanthropy.

The Memorial Fund, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is widely respected for its commitment to supporting the education of underprivileged students from rural areas in Henan and Yunnan provinces. Embracing the long-term vision of its mission – which is to inspire and motivate young people from isolated regions with exposure to the outside world, including cultural, social and technological developments – the Memorial Fund has also sponsored and organised summer camps and visits to metropolitan Chinese cities. Since 2005, it has empowered more than 40,000 young people through various initiatives, helping them expand their perspectives beyond their isolated communities.

Beyond these initiatives, the Memorial Fund has made an impact on national policy. A research paper supported by the Memorial Fund – jointly conducted by universities in Australia and Beijing – caught the attention of China’s Ministry of Civil Affairs, leading to the establishment of its Department of Child Welfare in 2017.

Lam Kwun King Memorial Fund - Philanthropy for the future

Children’s welfare has long been a core focus of the Memorial Fund. “Children are the future. They will make a difference in the world,” says Vincent Lam, who established the Memorial Fund in honour of his late father, Lam Kwun King. Lam, who also serves as founder and chairman of Asiaray Media Group Ltd, leads the Memorial Fund with a guiding philosophy inspired by his father: “Teach people how to fish, and you feed them for a lifetime.”

Lam identifies needs in society, provides the overall direction of the Memorial Fund and monitors its support. “My goal is to nurture young people’s aspirations by broadening their horizons and exposing them to new experiences,” Lam says.

He believes philanthropic initiatives can complement government policies, helping to bridge gaps where public programmes may not reach. “Many of Hong Kong’s wealthiest individuals started from humble beginnings. Inspiration is key – it’s much more sustainable than simply giving financial aid,” he adds.

This philosophy sparked the collaboration with GEG to share the global artistry and electrifying live performances of KOOZA with children and families in need. “They will see the brilliance of the world. This isn’t the traditional circus they might expect – it will open their eyes to infinite possibilities on a global stage,” Lam says. He hopes the experience will encourage children to dream big: “If they put their minds to their ambitions, they will succeed.”

Through Asiaray’s partnership with GEG, the company and the Memorial Fund have donated around 2,000 tickets of the total distribution to a variety of charity partners. To maximise the impact, the Memorial Fund has also launched the “Spreading the Smiles, Light up Hong Kong's Screens with Joy” Charity Campaign.

“We want beneficiaries of this campaign to share the joy they experience from the live performance,” he explains. Attendees will be encouraged to capture memorable moments and upload them to designated webpage, with selected images displayed across Asiaray’s giant outdoor LED advertising screens in Central and Causeway Bay. “Hopefully, the happiness will be infectious, spreading positive energy across town.”

Tickets will be distributed through networks of NGOs, including the Kowloon Women’s Organisations Federation, Hong Kong Women Development Association, and Hong Kong Island Women's Association, ensuring access for children and their families in need.

Philanthropic initiatives can take many innovative approaches. The collaboration between GEG, the Memorial Fund and Cirque du Soleil treats many children and their parents to amazing live entertainment, ranging from gasp-inducing feats to the playful storytelling that creates magical memories that families will treasure long after the final bow. Lam believes that experiencing these joyous moments together as a family will contribute to family bonding and social harmony.

Ripple effect

Lam hopes this collaboration will create a ripple effect – not only sharing moments of joy but also encouraging a culture of philanthropy. “We want to inspire others to take ownership of their communities, motivating charities and philanthropists to form partnerships and drive social good,” he says.

This collaboration exemplifies innovative philanthropy: beyond financial support, it offers families an extraordinary experience, inspiring them, while fostering stronger family bonds and enriching the community with shared joy.

Building a resilient society requires more than financial aid. “We need to cultivate a compassionate environment – where people proactively lend a helping hand to those in need,” Lam says.
