Robust, transparent and sleek, the new limited edition Royal Oak Tourbillon Chronograph Openworked entirely clothed in black ceramic makes the ultimate Christmas gift for the discerning watch connoisseur.

Strikingly Black

Limited to 100 pieces, the new 44 mm Royal Oak Tourbillon Chronograph Openworked comes in high-tech black ceramic, one of the hardest materials around. More durable yet lighter than steel, ceramic withstands high temperatures, thermal shocks, scratches and the passing years, making this sturdy material among the most desirable in contemporary Haute Horlogerie. The ceramic case and bracelet are handcrafted to a flawless finish alternating satin and polished surfaces.

The Impressive Art of Openworking

The openworked dial merges technical prowess and design aesthetics into a three-dimensional horological marvel.

Audemars Piguet openwork specialists create a new movement by starting with the end design and working backwards. With a tiny handsaw, they carve out components to as much as half of their initial dimensions. It is an art balancing aesthetics and function. Cut too little in the wrong place, and it looks wrong. Cut too much and the movement’s integrity is compromised. Finding the perfect balance demands horological mastery and profound knowledge of materials and finishing techniques.

The mesmerizing black openworked satin-brushed dial is illuminated and enhanced by white gold applied hour-markers and hands with luminescent coating. The light grey tourbillon bridge at 6 o’clock adds a subtle touch to the dial’s dark openworked structure.

The hand-wound calibre 2936 is visible through the openworked dial and the sapphire caseback. This movement measures 29.90 mm in diameter and 8.07 mm in thickness. It has a frequency of 3 Herz (21,600 vibrations/hour) and 72 hours of power reserve. Exquisitely finished, the movement is a true work of art.
Exchange the black ceramic bracelet with a two-tone black rubber strap with subtle grey highlights for a more casual look.

Alternative Straps

For a change of look and a more casual feel, the Royal Oak Tourbillon Chronograph Openworked comes with two extra rubber straps: an all-black strap and a two-tone black strap with elegantly understated grey highlights on the sides and back. The bracelet and strap variety makes this model fit for all occasions. This watch will certainly take pride of place in a top-notch collection.
