On October 16, be transported to a bewitching world with Fujita’s vibraphone music inspired by the silence and deepness of the fog, the mountains and the gravity within. Evoking images, atmospheres and sceneries of nature that he has accumulated in himself, Fujita’s music is both emotional and spiritual, progressive and transcendent.  Lest you think it’s more for a meditation session than a night out, his ethereal and layered sounds will give you an auditory experience like none other.

Evocative sounds of nature

This new series of monthly music-centric encounters with inspiring musical talents is a signature event of the Niccolo brand - for one night each month, different hotels under the group host a tastefully curated live music gathering, making each an evening destination of choice. As the flagship hotel of the brand, The Murray introduces sensational musical pop-ups featuring renowned modern classical/electronica artists that have never played in Hong Kong before to add groove and thrill to Popinjays. By pairing an artist and their instrument in an intimate and stripped-down setting with Hong Kong's skyline as the backdrop, the iconic Hong Kong hotspot gives the audience a unique and sophisticated auditory experience.

Fujita first learned how to play the drums in Japan, followed by extensive vibraphone training to craft and play his own compositions. But not one to stick to traditional vibraphone styles or techniques and theory of composition, he creates his own unique style which combines vibraphone with electronics, beats and a little bit of dub ambient.  He modifies his vibraphone by putting small plastic balls on the strings for a sizzle sound, or use hand towels to mute it, or tin foils to make noise. Apologues, his 2015 debut album with Erased Tapes, was a masterpiece and milestone for Fujita as he marked his presence with his multi-instrumental talent. He used for the first time an array of other musical instruments played by friends besides his vibraphone in an arrangement composed by himself.  Experimental music fans around the world have commended his recent collaboration with German electronic musician Jan Jelinek.
