A celebration of savoir faire

Festivities kicked off on August 31 at a Venetian gala dinner for 80 distinguished guests from all over the world at the magnificent Palais Pisani Moretta.  The splendid palace, situated along the Grand Canal, has played host to such historical luminaries as Tsar Paul I of Russia, Joséphine Bonaparte, Holy Roman Emperor Joseph II and Goethe.

On this special evening, the gathering of contemporary leading lights was led by British actor Benedict Cumberbatch, brand ambassador of the Grande Maison.  He gave an inspiring Letters Live performance as only a brilliant, multi-faceted performer knows how.  Letters Live is a philanthropic initiative supported by Jaeger-LeCoultre that promotes the power of literacy by inviting world-class artists to perform live readings of historical letters on stage, while adding their own artistic interpretation to the original text.

As befitting his role with the Manufacture, Cumberbatch wore the new limited-edition Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Memovox launched in January and inspired by the 1968 Memovox Polaris diving watch famed for its sporty elegance. Meanwhile, critically acclaimed South Korean actor Lee Byung-Hun looked dapper with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Chronograph in pink gold with an anthracite dial and an oscillating weight in pink gold.

A celebration of the art of filmmaking

On September 4, the stars were out in force again at a dinner held at the Venetian Arsenal to celebrate the art of filmmaking.

They paid tribute to legendary Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg who received the Leone d’Oro alla carriera - the Venice International Film Festival’s annual lifetime achievement award.  CEO of Jaeger-LeCoultre Catherine Rénier and Canadian actress Sarah Gadon presented Cronenberg, who has been instrumental in creating more than 50 films, with a personalised Reverso Leone d’Oro alla carriera, engraved by Jaeger-LeCoultre artisans with a lion, the symbol of Venice.

The luminaries also took the opportunity to celebrate the craft of watchmaking.  They admired the precious timepieces that showcase Jaeger-LeCoultre’s 185 years of watchmaking history at the retrospective exhibition held by the Grande Maison.  All transported for the occasion to Venice from the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture in Le Sentier in the Vallee de Joux, Switzerland, they included rare 19th century Jaeger-LeCoultre watches as well as current pieces from the Master, Reverso and Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collections.
