Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, Chief Executive, HKSAR
It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Lingnan University on the 50th anniversary of its re-establishment in Hong Kong.
Over the past five decades, Lingnan University has grown into an internationally recognised liberal arts college while staying true to its commitment to small-class teaching. It has inspired and nurtured many by providing a favourable environment for pursuing academic excellence and developing a global outlook.
Lingnan has also taken every opportunity to enhance its teaching and academic research in recent years, attaining remarkable achievements particularly in humanities, arts and social sciences disciplines. I am most confident that the perseverance and dedication of Lingnanians will be instrumental in enabling Lingnan to rise as one of Asia's top universities.
I share the lofty spirit embodied in Lingnan's motto "Education for Service" - a profound belief of serving the community through nurturing our youth. In a highly globalised, interconnected world, we need versatile leaders with a global perspective to help sustain Hong Kong's competitive edge, and Lingnan is in a unique position to supply talent of such extraordinary calibre.
I wish Lingnan all the best in its future endeavours and may the next 50 years be as successful as the last.
