For more than 75 years, Hip Shing Hong (HSH) and the founding Fong family have remained steadfast in their commitment to philanthropy, supporting communal growth through the ethos of giving back.

As corporate social responsibility (CSR) takes on greater importance in business strategy, HSH continues to embody the principle of 'Growing Together' by demonstrating how giving back can drive collective growth and prosperity.

David Fong Man-hung, managing director of Hip Shing Hong (Holdings) Co., Ltd., acknowledges his grandfather and father for instilling values that promote a human-centric society filled with kindness in the company’s foundation. Next to him is his son Jonathan Fong Tim-fai, deputy managing director of the company.
“Growing Together”

Earlier this year, HSH unveiled a rebranding initiative, that mirrors its long-standing connection with the community it serves. Moving forward, the company is committed to furthering this shared growth journey under a new motto of “Growing Together”.

As part of this journey, HSH has embarked on a multitude of philanthropic efforts to foster a kind, people-focused society as the company reshapes its identity as a proactive corporate citizen.

The company’s renewed corporate mission seeks to “exceed the ordinary” by creating homes and workspaces that resonate with people, crafting spaces that are not merely occupied but truly cherished.

Through meticulous design and planning, HSH creates space that transcend mere functionality, fostering a sense of community and connection with nature.

David Fong Man-hung, managing director of Hip Shing Hong (Holdings) Co., Ltd. and chair of the twin philanthropic endeavours of the Fong family, The Fong Shu Fook Tong Foundation, and Fong’s Family Foundation, reflects on the journey.

The “Orbis ‧ Hip Shing Hong Flying Eye Hospital See Love Tour 2024” marks the inaugural event in the year-long collaboration between Orbis and HSH, focusing on promoting eye health awareness.
"Hip Shing Hong has deep roots in Hong Kong’s community, thanks to the strong foundation laid by my grandfather and father," he reflects. "With the evolving opportunities and challenges of today, my team and I are dedicated to upholding the values of fostering a human-centric society filled with kindness."

"United in our commitment, we aim to promote collective growth and work towards a more enriching and prosperous future for everyone. As HSH embarks on a new chapter, our dedication to the community and long-standing tradition of giving back will remain unwavering."

Impactful partnership with Orbis

For HSH, growing with the community implies a responsibility towards the welfare of its members, which is exemplified through a year-long partnership with Orbis, accentuated by the return of the Flying Eye Hospital to Hong Kong after an eight-year hiatus.

The “Orbis ‧Hip Shing Hong Flying Eye Hospital See Love Tour 2024” aims to raise awareness about eye health as part of this partnership. The goal is to provide eye care services and eye health education to as many as 30,000 individuals, both locally and overseas.

Between February 22 and March 3, the public had the opportunity to take a peek at the aircraft’s cabin, purpose-built as a compact, yet fully fledged eye hospital with a classroom, operating room, and recovery room for treating patients and teaching medical staff.

In addition to sponsoring the flying eye hospital’s tour to Hong Kong, HSH also supported the Orbis Walk for Sight event, which took place on April 7. The event attracted nearly 1,300 participants, raising awareness for the cause.

HSH’s wellness arm, Madera Yoga, served as the yoga partner for the walk. It hosted blindfolded yoga sessions for parents and kids, enabling them to experience the challenges faced by individuals with visual impairments.

HSH also supported the Orbis Walk for Sight event on April 7, which drew nearly 1,300 participants to raise awareness on eye health for local parents and children.
Throughout the rest of this year, Orbis and HSH will organise more community events to continue raising awareness and support for those who have eye diseases.

And that’s not all. The participation of HSH employees as volunteers also underscores the company’s belief in proactive stakeholder engagement.

This ethos is further reflected in HSH’s collaborations with other NGOs and social enterprises, including Greeners Action, WWF, Red Cross, and Nature Bathing, to collectively forge a greater positive impact on the community.

Local primary school children lead a Nature Bathing tour for elderly guests, showcasing HSH’s commitment to inclusivity and inter-generational connection.
Connecting with nature for mind and body

Another noteworthy collaboration was with Nature Bathing, where HSH hosted community events in Shau Kei Wan—HSH’s birthplace.

These events served not only as a platform for urban dwellers to reconnect with nature but also as an opportunity to delve into the district’s rich history and culture. More importantly, these gatherings promoted physical and mental well-being through a holistic approach.

In one memorable Nature Bathing event that beautifully encapsulated HSH’s commitment to inclusivity and intergenerational connection, children from a local primary school were invited to design and lead a tour for elderly individuals.

This not only fostered a sense of community and belonging but also highlighted the importance of inclusivity, bridging generational gaps through shared experiences and mutual learning.

Philanthropic icon

Founded in 1948 by Fong Shu-chuen and his son Henry Fong Yun-wah, Hip Shing Hong (HSH) began as a promising business venture with a strong commitment to philanthropy. Over the years, it has grown into a robust real estate conglomerate, encompassing retail, office, and residential properties.

While driving business growth, HSH upholds its tradition of philanthropy through the support of the two family foundations, allowing the company to contribute to over 600 charitable initiatives in mainland China, Hong Kong, and elsewhere.
