BOCI-Prudential Asset Management 2015 Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club Invitational Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament
A year has passed and we are back for the BOCI-Prudential Asset Management 2015 Hong Kong Amateur Hockey Club Invitational Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament (September 18th to 20th). Since its debut in 2003, Hong Kong hockey has progressed at a rapid rate and after experiencing what you can call, “ice hockey enlightenment,” the HKAHC has restructured and revamped this tournament even further to raise awareness of the importance of developing and ensuring growth of hockey in Asia. This action packed weekend will be fueled by 9 dynamite teams from the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Macau, Qatar, Chinese Taipei, Mongolia, Philippines and Hong Kong who will compete to prove their worth on the international stage at Mega Ice Arena in Kowloon Bay, Hong Kong.
Following the vision of Mr. Thomas J. Wu, Chairman of the HKAHC and Vice President of the International Ice Hockey Federation (Asia/ Oceania), the 13th anniversary of the Invitational Amateur Ice Hockey Tournament will change its course and pace with the main goal of growing hockey in Asia. This new direction will bring additional rules and regulations which require each team to roster a minimum of five players under the age of 25 and all participating teams must reside in Asia, allowing these countries to focus on developing their younger generations of hockey players.
The HKAHC understands the importance of providing these intense and high level experiences for its younger players as they are the future of Hong Kong hockey. This has inspired the HKAHC to put together a team made up of majority players under 25 years old backed with a core group of veteran players who will bring passion, youth, and energy to the ice. Returning teams, who are regularly represented in the tournament; Japan, Chinese Taipei, Macau and the Philippines, will look to showcase their skill and talents with their experience, playing in this tournament. Supporters of ice hockey and fans of the new teams coming from Mongolia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar will wait in great anticipation to see what they will bring to this year’s tournament. These teams will come out firing to shock its opponents and viewers and they will bring their very best to make a statement in the hockey world in their tournament debut.
The tournament will be a round robin group stage format and once the preliminary games are completed and teams are placed in their respective standings, there will be playoffs to determine the tournament winner.
