New Amateur Hockey League 2016-2017 Season Underway

The Hong Kong Amateur Hockey League 2016-2017 season is quickly approaching and after an intense summer season they are looking to get under way with another action packed winter season.

The league will play on Wednesday and Sunday nights, which is comprised of three distinct divisions. Wednesday will make up our first Regular Division where higher level adult players will square off for the championship. This division will have nine teams, which after games in round robin format will split into two groups, where the top half and bottom half will play for a championship. In these nine teams will include last season’s champion Agon Knights, and summer league champions Gaggia Empire, who cruised easily to a summer league crown with a roster made of up of mostly Hong Kong National Team players. They will have to contend with Wednesday night regulars such as Bloody Orange and GI Japan, as well as new comers team Homely. And, you can never count out WIHO who were the 2014 League Champion.

In the other Regular Division on Sunday night, four teams will compete in a round robin format before competing in a playoff for 1st place. This division sees Novice Division champions Bear Fighters be promoted to the higher division, to play against perennial powerhouse NEWAY Wildcats. New teams this year include Zerve Spartans and Raptors, who should prove to be formidable opponents.

Also playing on Sunday night will be the Novice Division where Winner Medical Icewolves, Regular division champions a year ago look to be the early favorite in this lower division. However, also joining them from the higher division will be Crave Hong Kong and Verity, who will surely give them a run for their money. Teams such as WIHO Warriors and Titans also had strong showings in the games a year ago, so this division has the potential to be the most interesting of all.
