The Principal Standard League opened their season on September 6th, however league action was back for a second consecutive night. This time it was the other two teams doing battle in the arena, Winner Medical and Gaggia Empire.

This contest differed from opening night, with both teams starting out slow and sluggish.  It was all Gaggia Empire from the beginning, as they found the back of the net twice in the first two minutes of the game on two lucky plays. They did however pick up the action later in the period and from there it looked like it was going to be all Gaggia Empire.  The speedster Theo Wong also added a nice goal of his own as he caught the puck with speed and found daylight up ice. He moved methodically through what defense was in front of him and scored, giving Gaggia Empire a 3-0 cushion.

Winner Medical got a small bright spot in an overall dismal period, when Keith Tsang got a fortunate bounce and found the back of the net to make it 3-1. Moments later Gaggia Empire looked again to extend their lead back to 3 when a penalty shot was called for throwing the stick, however Jamie Stark failed to convert. That didn’t matter as they added a goal with 90 second left in the period, to finish the frame 4-1.

Play intensity rose in the second and third period as Winner Medical looked to wake up from its first period slumber. They didn’t give up a goal in the period while adding one from Dennis Yee. They again scored the first goal of the third period making it a one goal game and were poised to tie the game. However a defensive breakdown led to a fifth Gaggia goal, which was the back breaker. Winner Medical never managed to convert any further chances as they could not bring back the pressure they had earlier in the period.

In their next match up Winner Medical faces Verity on September 13th and Gaggia Empire takes on Principal on September 14th. Both games are played at Mega Ice.
