NetEase launches Marvel Unlimited iOS app with dozens of translated titles featuring the likes of Spider-Man and Iron Man

The Chinese version of Marvel Unlimited, the American publisher’s online comics library, is now available for download in Apple’s App Store. Operated by NetEase, it carries more than 80 comic series translated into Simplified Chinese. That includes well-known titles such as The Amazing Spider-Man and Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as new ones led by Chinese superheroes.

China has a dedicated Marvel fan base. Last year’s Avengers: Endgame was the country’s third highest-grossing film, trailing only domestic hits Nezha and The Wandering Earth. It’s notable given that US blockbusters can sometimes flop spectacularly in China. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was the third biggest film in North America last year, but in China it ranked only 75th, grossing a paltry US$20.3 million.

All titles on NetEase’s Marvel Unlimited are available for free at launch for an unspecified “limited period.” A subscription will later cost 18 yuan (US$2.60) a month. That’s much cheaper than the international version’s US$9.99 monthly subscription plan, but that version advertises more than 25,000 comics.
