Dancers win grant to visit US to visit US

TWO dance students from the Academy for Performing Arts (APA) have been selected to receive the 1995 BAT Grant of the Asian Cultural Council totalling $150,000.

The grant will enable them to take part in the prestigious American Dance Festival in Durham, North Carolina this summer.

Following a selection panel meeting recently, British-American Tobacco public affairs manager Ally Ho announced that this year's grants would be awarded to Advanced Diploma first year student Force Fong and Dominic Wong.

Now in its ninth year, the BAT Grant has supported 20 students from the academy's School of Dance. The students spend six weeks attending classes and workshops at the festival and one week in New York City taking classes and attending performances and rehearsals.

The American Dance Festival, established in 1934 to nurture the development of modern dance, hosts leading modern dance companies from around the world every summer to enrich its training programme.

This year, the visiting companies include the Pilobolus Dance Theatre and the Paul Taylor Dance Company.
