Double joy for Hong Kong runner runner

MAGGIE Chan Man-yee shone at the Taiwan CSK Cup track and field meeting when she won silver medals in 1,500 metres and 5,000 m, setting a new Hong Kong record in the longer event.

Twenty-year-old Maggie, who is set to begin a scholarship at Brigham Young University in Utah after the summer, first collected the 1,500 m medal.

She shot into the lead straight after the start but was overtaken in the last 300 m by a South Korean and had to be content with second position with a time of 4:29.41.

Maggie was again beaten by a South Korean runner in the 5,000 m in which she clocked 17:06.75 to better her own Hong Kong national record by 12 seconds.
