Leon Lai heeds Mui's words of wisdom

THE four Big Kings shared the limelight at the recent RTHK 15th Top 10 Chinese Gold Songs Award Presentation Ceremony by having their songs in the Top 10. Aaron Kwok was awarded the best Mandarin song of the year award for his ''Love You Deeply''.

After hearing Anita Mui's words of wisdom that it was undesirable to award the most popular male singer prize to Aaron Kwok and Leon Lai because they were still newcomers to the local music industry, Lai agreed. ''In showbusiness, promotion sometimes depends on seniority. Being our senior, Mui's opinion is much valued,'' he said.

Artiste Joey Wong is grateful for Brigitte Lin's advice on her love problem. ''I remember that I had just said a few words to her at the time,'' said Wong.

Wong said she enjoyed being alone because during filming she already had her fill of socialising with with people; there was thus little time left for herself.

''I find Jimmy Lin is a very active and healthy teenager while Aaron Kwok is childish and love to poke fun,'' said artist Gloria Ip of her recent filming experience with the two pop stars.

''I always call Jimmy 'a child'. However, after Jimmy told me he didn't like it, I now call him 'an adult'. He is such a straightforward guy,'' said Ip. Ip added, however, that it was a treat to work with Kwok.

Singer-artist Chow Yun-fatt has expressed little interest in singing in China although many local singers have held concerts in the mainland lately. 'My reason is that after I learned how to sing, I realised that it was actually a very difficult art,'' said Hongkong movies' megastar.

Artist May Law has been quoted as saying: ''If you put in enough effort, success will always come.'' This was her verdict after friend Jacky Cheung won the IFPI International Award. Law also said that she did have marriage in mind when she was 19. Now that's all changed; there are many plans she wants to carry out. Marriage is not one at the moment.
