Quality lifts OEM partner Indospring to greater heights

Ikawati Nurhadi, president and director

Mitsubishi, Hino and Isuzu, among Japan's biggest car and heavy-duty vehicle brands, have embodied the highest levels of quality in the industry for decades. Interestingly, these brands rely on an Indonesian company for springs that meet their discriminating standards of quality, cost and delivery (QCD).

With unflinching adherence to stringent QCD guidelines, Indospring has earned the trust of companies whose main selling point is quality. "We have proven to be a reliable partner and we prepare ourselves to give our partners the best service," says president and director Ikawati Nurhadi.

An original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of automotive leaf and coil springs, Indospring began in 1978 as a technical partner for Mitsubishi, supplying products under an OEM licence to the Japanese company. Approximately 70 per cent of automotive springs used for commercial cars in Indonesia are produced by Indospring.

On top of its OEM commitment to Mitsubishi that has become a 35-year partnership, Indospring has enlarged its aftermarket and export segments to 50 per cent of all sales. Wiranto Nurhadi, president and commissioner, credits such partnerships for propelling Indospring to become a leading automotive coil spring maker in Southeast Asia.

Along with expansion and partnership plans throughout Southeast Asia, Europe and China, Indospring aims to strengthen its supply capability and build the business further towards becoming a fully integrated company.

Indospring has had its share of boom cycles along with fluctuations in the automotive sector. What helped it spring back has been its dedication to QCD. Through its in-house research and development division, Indospring works closely with partner-clients from the earliest stages of conceptualisation through to production.

"We always try to accommodate our partners' requirements," Ikawati says. "They look for a partner that's reliable and that they know is a proven one in the market."
