ACSET lays strong foundation for growth

Ronnie Tan, president and CEO

A clear-cut vision to become a total solutions provider made ACSET INDONUSA what it is today: a reliable firm ready to tackle the most challenging construction projects. Since its establishment in 1995, ACSET has built competence across all areas of construction, functioning as a specialist and general contractor.

With its extensive experience, ACSET continues to take construction to greater heights, showcasing strengths in foundation specialist work, general building work and civil engineering.

One jewel in ACSET's crown was its work on Pacific Place Jakarta - a mixed development of high-end shopping mall, hotel and apartments which the company completed from lower ground floor in 18 months.

Prior to ACSET's involvement in Pacific Place, the former project was affected by the Asian financial crisis and was abandoned with its four-level basement already in place.

For the new development, the client wanted to reorient the two apartment towers to north-south facing and build an eight-floor shopping mall on top of the existing structure and foundation. ACSET was contracted to underpin the existing foundation by installing additional bored piles, enlarge the pile caps and strengthen the structure on top of the main contract works.

"Most contractors can build foundation piles but not everyone can build and install piles on top of existing basement structures," says Ronnie Tan, president and CEO.

ACSET's expertise also covers below- and above-ground services such as bored piling, driven piling, diaphragm wall, marine works, geotechnical works, basement and strutting works, pre-stressing and post-tensioning, slipforming and formwork systems.

Investing in human capital enabled ACSET to expand from its core expertise. "We succeed not because of what we offer," Tan says. "It's because there's a soft element: our employees. They drive our success."

International construction and engineering companies such as Keppel Land, Ascendas, Mitsui, Daewoo and Mace work with ACSET for local projects.

ACSET's collaboration with foreign companies goes beyond project developments. For procurement, the company also works with Chinese construction equipment manufacturers such as Zoomlion, Sany, Sunward and XCMG.

"China is among the world's leading equipment manufacturers. A major part of our fleet is from China. They supply us with competitively-priced equipment, helping reduce our leasing costs," Tan says.

ACSET seeks to form relationships with other Chinese firms and Asian companies, particularly those interested in taking part in Indonesia's construction boom.

"For these companies to succeed in Indonesia, they must look for a partner of choice," Tan says. "We can be that partner."
