Curious about changeover

The change of sovereignty in 1997 is approaching and many things will be different.

We will, for example, have a different country and different leader with responsibility for Hong Kong. There are many serious and important questions that the changeover raises, but I am also concerned about what might be considered minor matters. For instance, I am concerned about what will happen to public holidays, how children will fare in the new system and about old people's benefits.

Take the holiday question. Will there be more public holidays after July 1, 1997 and what sort of holidays will we have? We may find some Chinese holidays becoming longer, such as festivals and the National Day in October, while some Western festivals like Easter and Christmas may be shorter than they are at present. Is there anywhere I can go to or anyone I can ask to answer the questions I have about what it will be like in Hong Kong after 1997? ELLA CHEUNG Kowloon
