Hibox connects users with integrated web TV

Andreas Ohman, chief technology officer and co-founder

Before online streaming media became a trend, Hibox Systems already made its mark as a pioneer of internet TV. In 2004, the Finnish company's founders combined their skills in information technology and engineering to build an internet protocol television (IPTV) system middleware purchased by a rapidly growing Finnish hotel chain. Since then, Hibox has evolved into a global provider of advanced integrated turnkey information and entertainment solutions for clients in the hospitality, residential and telecommunications sectors.

"Our system is an enabling technology - an integrated delivery system," says Andreas Ohman, Hibox's chief technology officer and co-founder. "Our main product is the software - the middleware - which allows us to take available content, package it, sell it and ensure that it is delivered to the end-consumer."

A subsidiary of Anvia Group, one of Finland's biggest telecommunications operators, Hibox offers sophisticated, customisable and scalable IPTV middleware and over-the-top-content (OTT) systems. Its products include such successes as Hibox Aura, a software platform delivering TV, video-on-demand and interactive services, and Hibox Housekeeper, a support tool for hotel cleaning and maintenance activities.

Highly valuing technical competence and research and development, Hibox strives to keep its solutions flexible and agile to address changing market needs. As an example of its software application potentials, Hibox's middleware powers Anvia's latest IPTV and OTT service named Watson. The service combines live-streaming internet TV and catch-up functionality with subscription video-on-demand and makes them accessible across multiple devices.

With its eye on key growth segments such as online TV, health care, maritime, cloud computing and mobile products, Hibox looks towards Asia-Pacific for partnerships with local technology companies, set-top box companies, resellers and manufacturers.

"We aim to be one of the top three middleware providers in all categories, and have the competitive edge by being a forerunner of these technologies," Ohman says. "We are open to fresh possibilities in new markets and want to share our technological expertise."
