Utz delivers packaging systems to Asia-based clients

Thomas Jaussi, business development manager

With its global clients in the automotive, electronics, food, logistics, post and retail industries looking towards the robust economies of Asia, Georg Utz Holding has grown from a European player into a global and flexible partner of choice for multinational corporations. The Swiss provider of internationally certified sustainable packaging solutions has made sound investments to support its customers' Asian operations, beginning in China.

Founded in Zurich in 1947, Utz brings more than 65 years of expertise in high-precision injection moulding and vacuum forming to its clients. From customised solutions in component trays and holders to standardised plastic pallets and containers, the company champions a multiple-use closed-loop production approach, ensuring that products remain recyclable from start- to end-use.

In the last 30 years, Utz has globally expanded from Switzerland to Germany, Britain, France, Poland and the United States, culminating in its current operations in China. As part of its international growth strategy, the company has invested in new production lines in Germany and is doubling production capacities in their British and Polish factories. Bigger investments in the Swiss production plant are also in progress.

"We have a bridge customer strategy, meaning we invest to supply our clients worldwide with sustainable, Utz-quality-managed and consistent solutions," says Thomas Jaussi, business development manager.

Utz's commitment to following and serving customers has translated into an ongoing 9,000-square-metre expansion in its production facility in Suzhou to support the local operations of its global customer base.

To be operational in May this year, the plant will boast, among others, a 2,700-tonne injection-moulding machine and more technical solutions experts, along with the ability to triple capacity as needed to answer the market demand.

"Many of our German automotive customers have growing investments in China," Jaussi says. "Our vision for growth has always been in line with our customers'. We are their plastics expert."
