NZ association is getting on with business

THE New Zealand-Hongkong Business Association was founded in 1982, but it was not until 1991, when a steering committee was organised, that the association became more formalised.

Most members of the steering committee represented New Zealand firms based in Hongkong and they, along with others who supported the committee, subscribed to enable the association to begin.

The New Zealand Trade Development Board found office space and equipment in their premises at Jardine House, and in March last year a part-time was appointed.

The objectives of the association are primarily to provide a recognised forum and supportive environment to help individuals and companies seeking to increase business, trade, or to promote ideas relating to business between New Zealand, Hongkong and China.

In this respect the association works closely with the New Zealand Trade Development Board and the New Zealand Commission.

Social events are planned on a regular basis to enable contact between members.

In the past year luncheons have been held with speakers including Dr Don Brash, Governor of the Reserve Bank, Dr Graham Scott, Secretary to the Treasury, Dr Danny Chan of Fidel Investments who spoke on investment opportunities in both Asia and New Zealand, and Mr Lindsay Pyne, the previous chief executive officer of the Bank of New Zealand.
