Young musicians show off their talents

TROMBONE player Wan Shing-wai, 11, was one of many talented young musicians at the 1993 Hongkong and Kowloon Trainees' Concert held yesterday at the Academic Community Hall in Kowloon Tong.

The event was organised by the government-run Music Office, which nurtures young talent by providing instrumental music training and promoting interest among youngsters through festivals and related events.

The concert was one of many musical undertakings by the office, which also organises international exchanges to foster mutual understanding and to allow local talent to get the chance to gain overseas experience.

More than 120 youngsters took part in yesterday's concert.

Despite their tender ages, some of the participants have had up to 10 years of intensive training.
