Full steam ahead for Freighter

Easy-to-back Super Freighter (8-1) took the final event at Sha Tin yesterday safely seeing off the 3-1 favourite Strikers, all the rage after his top run in last month's Hong Kong Derby.

Super Freighter has been a model of consistency this season and forged through under Eric Saint-Martin to take it up close home and score a deserved victory in the 1,400-metre, Classes One and Two nightcap.

Strikers, ridden by South African Piere Strydom, came through on the rails from fairly well back in the field but never looked like getting to the winner.

He had a battle on his hands to keep consistent Seven Glory (9-2) out of second place and held on by the minimum margin.

Strikers had finished less than three lengths from Oriental Express in the Derby and was freshened up by trainer David Hayes for yesterday's event. Strikers settled towards the rear but was inched into it before the turn by Strydom who set him alight down the inside. But Super Freighter was travelling very well for the Frenchman and hit the front inside the distance. Within two strides he had bounded clear and won easily.
