School turns green for a day

Pupils of Tuen Mun Government Secondary School cleaned their campus during their first Environment Day.

The purpose of the day was to arouse students' concern for the environment and enhance their awareness of green issues in Hong Kong in general and in areas around the school in particular.

Activities included field trips, visits, videos, an inter-house quiz, an environment exhibition competition and a major effort to clean the school's campus.

In the Inter-House Quiz, representatives of the four houses did their best to answer questions testing their knowledge on environmental issues. Yellow House won the championship.

Secondary Six students took part in the Environment Exhibition Competition. They prepared exhibits on topics including urban development in Tuen Mun, acid rain and air pollution in Hong Kong.

Marks were awarded according to how environmentally-friendly the exhibits were.

Over-use or misuse of materials was penalised.

The occasion was a unique learning experience for all students.
