Your correspondent Sophia Woodman, Hong Kong representative of 'Human Rights in China', in her letter published in the South China Morning Post, on April 22, claims that China is the only permanent member of the UN Security Council not to have signed the human rights conventions of the UN. This is not correct.

For the record, the US is not a signatory to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, whereas China has now said that it is considering signing this important treaty.
