Original Soundtrack - Speed 2: Cruise Control (Virgin) For a film packed with action and special effects, the soundtrack is surprisingly bland.

 This reggae and soul inspired effort has none of the punch many of its featured artists are known for; the album includes the likes of UB40 and Shaggy. The one track that seems appropriate is the Speed TK Re-mix. TK, also known as Tetsuyo Komura, of TRF fame, has put together a manic, synthesiser driven track that leaves me with images of Jason Patric pursuing a psychotic villain.

 Another highlight is Carlinhos Brown's A Namorada, a funky track that sounds almost salsa, with strong influences from Latin house rhythms. Tracks that should be catchy, from UB40 and Shaggy, are surprisingly weak, as is reggae artist Jimmy Cliff's You Can Get It If You Really Want It.

 Maxi Priest's The Tide Is High plays up the reggae beats in Debbie Harry's original, and is far more memorable.

 Sting's Every Breath You Take is witnessing renewed popularity: a hip-hop version interpreted by Puffy and Faith as a tribute to rapper Notorious BIG; and on this soundtrack the Police hit is covered by Betty Wright. Her strong soul vocals successfully capture the beauty of the original.

 Despite some good tracks, the album does not live up to the name; Speed 2 it certainly is not.
